Script Analysis

Having taught in the Writers Program at UCLA Extension for nearly 17 years, I have had students worldwide take my courses, and I can say wholeheartedly that Alan ranks among the highest.

- BARNEY LICHTENSTEIN, UCLA Instructor (Story Analyst Course)

.

Thanks for those comments you made on the script the other week… You are an incredibly astute script analyst!

- PATRICK GILLIES: Writer/Director (Huhu Attack, Kitty, Offensive Behaviour); Director (The Pretender, The Holy Roller)

.

Want to know if your script is as good as it can be? Want a fresh set of experienced eyes to give you a detailed script analysis that’ll show you how to make it better?

Alan has been working as a professional script analyst / script assessor for nearly ten years. He was a script editor for a sketch comedy series in 1998 (‘Pio!’) and in 1999 started work as a development executive at The Gibson Group where he script edited Glenn Standring’s debut feature ‘The Irrefutable Truth About Demons‘ (a.k.a. ‘The Truth About Demons’). In 2000 he created an original one-hour drama series and headed the script department on that show (‘The Strip‘), script editing all forty episodes.

Since then he has gone through Barney Lichtenstein‘s legendary UCLA Extension course on being a story analyst (script assessor) in Hollywood and has just completed his follow-up development internship where he did coverage for a producer based on the Paramount studio lot.

Alan has done script analysis for both new writers and produced film-makers in Hollywood, Australia and New Zealand. He teaches undergraduate screenwriting part-time at Auckland’s School of Performing and Screen Arts at Unitec.

During the script assessment, Alan will examine and critique: story structure, characters and character relationships, theme, dialogue, as well as technical and aesthetic considerations (such as how the script is set-out on the page). His script analysis will include a detailed 6-7 page written analysis and a 90 minute one-on-one consultation with you (over the phone, or in person if you live in Auckland). Page notes can be supplied if a hard copy of the script is available. If the script is sent electronically a further NZ$10 fee will apply to NZ clients and US$20 fee for overseas clients to cover printing and postage (only if hand written page notes are requested).

Further testimonials regarding Alan’s script analysis work can be found on the Testimonials page.

Script assessment prices start at US$175 or NZ$300+GST ($337.50). Email me at info@shootfirst-productions.com or contact me through the Contact form with any questions or to arrange a free, no-obligation initial consult.
